Orderly spectra from random interactions

چکیده
We investigate the low-lying spectra of many-body systems with random two-body interactions, specifying that the ensemble be invariant under particle-hole conjugation. Surprisingly we find patterns reminiscent of more orderly interactions, such as a predominance of J = 0 ground states separated by a gap from the excited states, and evidence of phonon vibrations in the low-lying spectra. c ©1998 American Physical Society

Nature of order from random two-body interactions
We investigate the origin of order in the low-lying spectra of many-body systems with random two-body interactions. Our study based both on analytical as well as on numerical arguments shows that except for the most J-stretched states, the ground states in the higher J-sectors are more orderly and develop larger energy gaps than the ones in the J = 0-sector. Due to different characteristic ener...
متن کاملSpin Ordering of Nuclear Spectra from Random Interactions *
Recent developments in many-body quantum chaos have raised the issue of correlations between different families of levels in the spectra of random fermionic systems. It seems that rotational invariance is sufficient to force an otherwise random system to have statistically ordered spectra where the ground state can have zero spin or the maximum spin allowed a huge portion of the time. We have t...
متن کاملComparative transitive and temporal orderliness in dominance networks
Dominance is a social relation between a subordinate animal and the dominant to which it submits. Animal groups seem regularly to form dominance hierarchies in which dominance relations are transitive and stable, but comparative studies are rare. Dominance hierarchies can be formalized as social networks, with arrows (directed edges) pointing from dominant animals (nodes) to subordinates. Using...
متن کاملRandom versus realistic interactions for low-lying nuclear spectra.
We compare the shell-model results for realistic interactions with those obtained for various ensembles of random matrix elements. We show that, although the quantum numbers of the ground states in the even-even nuclei have a high probability ( approximately 60%) to be J(pi)T = 0(+)0, the overlap of those states with the realistic wave functions is very small in average. The transition probabil...
متن کاملFinite-size corrections in Lyapunov Spectra for Band Random Matrices
The transfer matrix method is applied to quasi one-dimensional and one-dimensional disordered systems with long-range interactions described by band random matrices. We investigate the convergence properties of the whole Lyapunov spectra of finite samples as a function of the bandwidth and of the sample length. Two different scaling laws are found at the maximal and minimal Lyapunov exponents. ...
